TUBERCULOSIS TREATMENT

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection spread through the inhalation of tiny droplets from an infected person's coughing or sneezing. Although the lungs are the most commonly affected, they can affect any part of the body, including the stomach (abdomen), glands, bones, and nervous system. TB is a potentially fatal disease, but it is treatable with the right antibiotics. Tuberculosis is caused by a bacterial infection. The most contagious form of tuberculosis (TB) affects the lungs (pulmonary TB), but it usually spreads only after prolonged contact with someone who has the disease. In most healthy people, the body's natural defense against infection and illness (the immune system) kills the bacteria, and there are no symptoms. The immune system is sometimes unable to kill bacteria but is able to prevent them from spreading throughout the body. Even if you don't have any symptoms, the bacteria will remain in your body. This is known as latent tuberculosis. People who have latent tuberculosis are not contagious. If the immune system fails to kill or contain the infection, it can spread to the lungs or other parts of the body, resulting in symptoms within weeks or months. This is known as active tuberculosis. If your immune system is compromised, latent tuberculosis can progress to active tuberculosis later in life.
